Ponder with Me
It is not a rare sight to see one of my kids running around with something in their hands. Sometimes it's something they should not be holding onto or running around with for that matter; scissors, pencils, forks, you get the point, it's anything pointy that's dangerous.
Sometimes they are holding their favorite toy or a pillow. But often I have something I want to give them. And what I have to give them are often something I know they would want. So I invite them by saying, "please let go of what you're holding onto, daddy has something for you." Often, as you can expect, they refuse, until they see a glimpse of what I have for them.
When my kids let go of what was in their hands because of what they see, this is an appropriate and reasonable response, because they now see what is in my hands is better than what they are currently holding onto.
But faith goes beyond appropriate and reasonable responses.
Faith lets go before seeing what daddy has in his hands.
Faith is seeing before seeing.
Faith is beholding before holding.
As we prepare for the Sabbath Day,
may we practice the art of letting go,
to embrace what God has for us.
Sabbath then is running to God,
loosening our grip,
and embracing His presence
and His "presents".
Happy preparing, see you soon.

Pray this Prayer with Me
I am so afraid to open my clenched fists!
Who will I be when I have nothing left to hold on to?
Who will I be when I stand before you with empty hands?
Please help me to gradually open my hands
and to discover that I am not what I own,
but what you want to give me.” - Henri Nouwen
